one three credit course per semester at area colleges including
VTC, UVM, CCV, Champlain College and NECI. Tuition is paid through VSAC grants and by CTE; students buy the textbook.
CTE students travel to area college campus to take courses
leading to degrees in Business Management, Early Childhood
Education, Computer Information Systems, Graphic Design and
Web Page Management. In combination with the articulation
system for earning credits through agreements with colleges,
this program enables students to enrich or supplement their
academic background, and get a head start on post-secondary
education. Many students use this opportunity to take college
freshman year “general education” required courses
(English, math) while others explore the Humanities, sciences
or build communication skills. Through this optional program,
approximately 50 students each year earn actual college transcripts
with three to nine credits (including a summer course for
returning students). This “head start” for college
is beneficial financially as well as career and academic enrichment.
Through a combination of these two college connection programs
at CTE, it is possible for a motivated and capable student
to accumulate an entire year of college credit during two
years at CTE.
