Program Description
The Business Academy prepares students for success in business
and organizational management by developing their skills in
sales, marketing, customer service and entrepreneurial initiative.
Students acquire essential computer and accounting skills
and have authentic retail management experience in the operation
of the Technology Center's on-campus store. Through this program,
students learn time management techniques, develop productivity
traits that contribute to personal and professional success,
and take advantage of opportunities to enter the business
world either as an employee or owner.
The classroom creates an authentic business and retail environment.
Students learn to work independently and collaboratively to
analyze and solve problems. Field trips and guest speakers
provide additional program enhancements. A mathematics credit
and English credit are embedded into the program.
Curriculum Components
Curriculum units include computer applications using Microsoft
Office Suite 2002; English mechanics (both oral and written);
the accounting cycle; customer service, marketing strategies,
and modern business management. In addition, ten-key skills,
resume writing, interviewing techniques, and developing and
presenting a business plan prepare students to productively
contribute and eventually manage a business or organization.
Students manage and staff the school store. This includes
operation of an electronic cash register, inventory control
and management, and store promotions. It will be staffed by
students in the Business Academy.
